President Mahama Appoints Nii Moi Thompson Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission

Former Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, has been appointed as Chairman pending consultations with the Council of State. Dr. Thompson who served as the Senior Economic Adviser to President Mahama in 2015, led technical delegations to the United Nations to develop the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and subsequently guided their integration into Ghana’s national development agenda.

Dr. Nii Moi Thompson worked as senior economist at the New York State Bureau of Fiscal and Economic Analysis in New York City, before returning to Ghana in 1997. While in Ghana, he worked for a number or local and international organisations including United Nations Development Programme where he served as a senior economic adviser in South Africa. He also worked as chief technical adviser to the International Labour Organisation in Ghana and Sierra Leone, and a consultant at the World Bank in Liberia.

As Director-General of NDPC, Dr. Thompson was instrumental in drafting the 40-year development plan. However, as Chairman of the Commission, he will collaborate more closely with the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Government Statistician and other presidential appointees and representatives from the 16 regions to provide strategic advice to the President and Parliament for Ghana’s development.
