Springfield E&P has reached an agreement with Northern Ocean Limited (NOL) to lead the appraisal of the Afina-1x well on the deep offshore block, West Cape Three Points (WCTP-2). As part of the agreement, Springfield secured a Deepsea Bollsta rig from NOL for a well test scheduled to start in October.
The move however underscores Springfield’s commitment toward advancing Ghana’s oil production that is anchored on a broad strategy aimed at finalising the unitisation of the Afina-Sankofa fields, in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and GNPC Explorco.
The Chief Executive Officer of Springfield, Kevin Okyere, praised the agreement hoping that what his company has achieved will inspire Ghanaians and the youth across Africa.
He said, “this is a testament to our commitment to realise Ghana’s full potential in oil production”.
The unitisation process, which integrates the two fields into a single operation, is anticipated to unlock significant value for both the Ghanaian government and private stakeholders and Springfield’s appraisal campaign will therefore mark a key step towards achieving this goal.
Speaking on this milestone, Chief Executive Officer of NOL, Arne Jacobsen, acknowledged what Springfield is seeking to do in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector. He said Springfield is an important operator in Ghana that his company is eager to build a long-term relationship with.
