The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, March 27, received the final report of an audit conducted by KPMG into transactions between Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) following an investigative report by a local publisher The Fourth Estate. President Akufo-Addo appointed KPMG in December 2023 to conduct an audit of the said transactions between GRA and SML.
The Fourth Estate through its parent organisation Media Foundation for West Africa, a media rights civil society organisation based in Accra, wrote to the presidency for the full KPMG audit report but the presidency declined the request citing a section of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) that precludes the President or Vice President from exempting information that contains an opinion, advice, deliberation, recommendations, minutes or consultation given to the President and is likely to undermine the decision process of the President. However, President Akufo-Addo, acceding to mounted pressure has released the said report.
