Two groups calling themselves Concerned Drivers Association (C-DAG) and Transport Operators of Ghana have jointly announced a 15% increase in transport fares effective Saturday, April 13, 2024. According to the groups, the increase in fares became necessary due to “recent increment in the price of petrol” and the government’s seeming indifference regarding any reduction in the price of petrol as well as cost of vehicle spare parts and lubricants.
In a statement signed by the executives of C-DAG and True Drivers Union on Monday, April 8, the increases in fares will affect short distance/intracity transport, long journey/intercity travels, and taxi transport. There will also be an increase in fare for short distance taxi hire services from GH¢10 to GH¢15. The transport operators cited, “prevailing economic difficulties and other factors” are worsening the living condition of transport owners and drivers in the country.
