The price of a litre of petrol at the pumps is likely to cross the 15-cedi mark when the next pricing window kicks in on Wednesday, May 1.
The price of a litre of petrol was greater than the price of a litre of diesel for the first time this year after petrol saw an upward adjustment of about 8% when the current pricing window began on 16th April.
The hike occasioned by the cedi’s continual slide against the US Dollar and the rather significant rise in the price of petrol as opposed to the marginal rise in the price of gasoil on the international market saw state-owned oil and gas marketing company, and the largest market share holder, GOIL adjust its price of a litre of petrol upward to 14.99 Ghana Cedi.
However, latest industry data cited by CediTalk indicates the price of a litre of petrol is likely to rise marginally by about 1%, thereby crossing the 15-cedi mark.
The price of a litre of diesel, on the other hand, is expected to see a reversal in the increment recorded on 16th April as, despite the depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, the average price of diesel on the international market has fallen by about 6% within the last two weeks.
Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is also expected to continue its downward trend, as its average price on the international market equally fell more than 6%.
