This is the 10th edition of Hunting Hurdles and this time we feature an exciting young content creator. I hope you enjoy the interview and some of the wonderful work we shared.

Could you kindly introduce yourself?

I am Eric Okyere, a videographer and photographer based in Accra.

Tell us all about Lights and Action Productions?

Lights and Action is a content production company. We create content for media houses such as music videos, entertainment shows, talk shows and TVCs. We also cover all kinds of events such as weddings, naming ceremonies, conferences, birthday parties etc.

How long have you been running this business?

Since 2015.

What gave you the idea for your business?

I have had the idea since I was in Junior High. I used to have a digital camera and I was taking footage of everything around me. And I wanted to one day have a content business that will allow me to generate income from my passion.

Did you tell people about your idea? How did they receive it?

I shared the idea with friends and family. They encouraged me to be strong and do it well.

How difficult was it to start?

It was very difficult for us to start because some of the production equipment was very expensive.

What challenges do you face on a day-to-day basis?

Clients don’t really pay on time. Also you can spend 3-7 days on the field for a shoot. Weddings can take as long as a week for editing. For music videos, the shoot and editing can take up to 3 weeks.

What has been the worst experience of running your business?

We went to shoot a funeral and we were not even given transport fare to return. And it took the client 2 months to pay us what they owed.

What has been the best experience?

We went on a tour with the Miss Ghana crew in 2017. We got the opportunity to tour many cities in Ghana and make friends with new people.

How do you market your business?

I put trailers of my works on Instagram and Facebook.

What has the response to Lights and Action been so far?

The response has been good. And we have got a lot of clients. That has helped us to get income to afford some of the equipment needed for production.

Do you have any employees? What does someone have to do to work with you?

I don’t have any permanent staff. But when I get contracts I hire people to come help.

How does entrepreneurship compare to a regular job?

Being an entrepreneur is good because you get the opportunity to do things on your own.

What can government do to help entrepreneurs?

Government has to create a lot of vocational and technical schools to give more people the skills to open their own businesses.

Any advice to other entrepreneurs or would-be entrepreneurs?

All entrepreneurs should stand strong to create jobs for the many young people in the country.
