Many people have business ideas they have been thinking or talking about developing for years. I am one of those people. I have had a ton of ideas, sat in countless meetings to discuss my ideas and those of other people. But talk is easy; execution is a different animal altogether.
It takes passion and willpower to take the step from drawing endless plans to launching a business. It takes even more willpower to jump over (or walk around) the hurdles that one would meet in running a business.
This is why people who have moved beyond the talk and have started businesses are truly inspiring. I am privileged to know a few of such people and I have always wanted an opportunity to know how they took the step. That’s the reason for this new series on CediTalk titled Hunting Hurdles. The series’ name comes from the fact that running a business presents obstacles and starting a business is like running into those obstacles with the desire to overcome them.
Hunting Hurdles will feature people running their first businesses or social enterprises. It will try to explore the various motivations of the entrepreneurs and how they got started. The series will bring a fresh perspective on reporting entrepreneurship by avoiding the usual obligation to “mentor”. Instead, the presentation of different perspectives from the various founders will give readers an unpolished view of what it takes to start a business.
The first feature in this series will be published on Friday, August 24. After which I will continue to feature a new entrepreneur every month for as long as I can find people with the kind of experience I hope to share.
If you have any suggestions for or questions about the series, you can leave a comment on this post or e-mail Jerome[at]ceditalk[dot]com. I’m always happy to hear from you and I hope you’ll enjoy Hunting Hurdles as much as I will.
